Wistron Medical Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Wistron Group (hereinafter referred to as "WMT"), has joined hands with the National Teaching Hospital - National Taiwan University Hospital to sign the Letter of Intent of "Smart Power Lower Limb Exoskeleton" in combination with the advantages of both parties in medical device development and clinical trial research. With this cross-border innovative cooperation, a professional team led by Director Chen Wenxiang of the Rehabilitation Department of National Taiwan University Hospital and Lin Fangyu Physical Therapist Team will conduct clinical trial research with the intelligent exoskeleton medical equipment provided by WMT. Feedback from user experience study is expected to achieve the greatest comprehensive effect of excellent research and application development. Combining technology with medical care to provide high-quality human-centered medical services to respond to the needs of the general public, this is in line with Wistron Medical Technology's vision: "Technology and Healthcare Make human life better!"
The aging of the global population is one of the important trends of the 21st century, and the number of people who suffer from inconvenience and weakness in the lower limbs due to aging or its underlying lesions has also increased. Since the 20th century, countries led by the United States have been conducting research on exoskeleton and rehabilitation exoskeleton robots. The American Heart Association (AHA, American Heart Association) recognized in 2010 that robot-assisted therapy can assist patients with the amount of training needed with fewer therapists; The market is still in its infancy, with high development costs and very high product price becoming the main reasons for its difficulty in popularization. The development of new exoskeleton robots is imperative, and it has become an important opportunity to start close cooperation between Wistron Medical Technology and National Taiwan University Hospital.
Wistron's "Intelligent Powered Lower Limb Exoskeleton Robot" combines the advantages of easier operation, lighter weight, and lower overall cost. Its operation principle is that the motion sensor starts the motor through artificial intelligence analysis, calculation and judgment through the movement changes of the user's hip and knee joints, and outputs precise power assistance to assist the user to complete the action and fully cooperate user's gait for security. The cooperation project of Wistron Medical Technology will be combined with the rehabilitation medical team of National Taiwan University Hospital to conduct clinical tests on stroke patients, and compare them with traditional rehabilitation therapy through experiments. It is expected that the exoskeleton robot will help patients to perform rehabilitation training and improve rehabilitation while reducing the burden of accompanying physicians and physical therapists.
Wistron develops the medical business with a service mentality. It is hoped that these high-priced medical devices will be affordable to every user at a reasonable price in the future. "We have great expectation on the cooperation with the National Taiwan University Hospital, and will provide more rehabilitation medical solutions in the future to help more people with limited mobility to restore their mobility. They can even return to the workplace, build confidence, gain dignity, and improve overall quality of life! "
Chen Wenxiang, Director of the Rehabilitation Department of National Taiwan University Hospital, said, "We are very pleased to cooperate with Wistron Medical Technology in the development of a multi-disciplinary professional. In addition to the planned clinical trials of medical devices, we look forward to Wistron's long-term investment in rehabilitation medical innovation research to jointly solve clinical pain points and improve the medical quality of rehabilitation medicine. "
Wistron has its medical business layout in 2016 to establish Wistron Biotech Investment Holdings company, and then Wistron Medical Technology was established after. In recent years, it has strategically cooperated with a number of Powered Exoskeleton companies, including Fubao Technology, the company with the original development team from ITRI, Bionik and B-temia from Canada. In addition to the introduction of relevant core technologies, combined with Wistron's rich design and manufacturing experience in the field of telecommunications, it has shown great results in related research and development technologies, product improvement, and cost optimization. In addition to diversified investment and cross-sector cooperation, Wistron already has two GMP manufacturing plants in Hsinchu and Chongqing, China. We look forward to providing more well-being for society in the process of implementing the vision of "Technology and healthcare make human life better!"
